History of Mossyrock Police Department
The Mossyrock Police Department was formed in February of 1949 with the hiring of the first “Town Marshal”.
Marshal Fletcher was hired at $50 a month and was required to furnish “a suitable car for his use and the expense of it operation”. This was raised to $142 a month the next year and the City of Mossyrock then were covering expenses up to $600 a year and a Deputy Marshal was hired at $50 a month.

The Mossyrock Police Department handles an average of 200 calls for service per year. In January of 2014 Mossyrock’s policing merged with the City of Morton. Mossyrock now contracts with Morton to provide our coverage. As a small town the cost to have our own police department has become too high. By joining with the City of Morton we now have 24/7 coverage which we were unable to have before and the cost is greatly reduced. This means our Citizens get better service at a lower cost.
